Jack Brown and Katarine Sickle impress in Missouri: Day two – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals, Columbia
Day two of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals saw the impressive performances of Jack Brown and Katarine Sickle in Columbia, Missouri, on Thursday, July 21.
The session of the meet conducted several brilliant swims, as Jack Brown snared the Men’s 400m Individual Medley and Katarine Sickle grabbed the gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle. Ben Bravence captured the golden crown in the Men’s 200m freestyle,
while Jill Schilling snagged the Women’s 400m IM crown.
Brown won the Men’s 400m IM title in a scintillating time of 4 minutes and 27.09 seconds. More importantly, he beat Bobby Bollier’s previous record of 4 minutes and 29.65 seconds, set back in 2008.
In the meantime, Austin Acheson of KC Blazer secured the silver medal with a time of 4 minutes and 33.66 seconds, whereas, Michael Glenn earned the bronze title in a time of 4 minutes and 34.54 seconds. After notching the 400m IM crown, Brown was pleased
with his individual performance in the meet.
In the second race, Katarine Sickle of KC Blazer topped the Women’s 200m freestyle meet with a winning time of 2 minutes and 04.45 seconds. Sigrun Sverrisdottir of Razorback wound up second in 2 minutes and 05.32 seconds, while Rebecca Swank of Kansas snared
bronze in a time of 2 minutes and 05.36 seconds.
The Men’s 200m freestyle crown was taken over by Ben Bravence of KC Blazer with a sterling time of 1 minute and 52.23 seconds. Meanwhile, Ben Scheffer wound up second in a time of 1 minute and 54.75 seconds, whereas, Will Schuermann of Greater Omaha rounded
out the top three in 1 minute and 54.92 seconds.
In another meet, the Women’s 400m IM title was won by Jill Schilling of CSP Tiderider with a triumphant time of 4 minutes and 55.68 seconds, while Jess Garrison of Arkansas Dolphin wound up second in 4 minutes and 59.12 seconds. Danielle Spradlin earned
third place honours after she touched the finishing wall in a time of 5 minutes and 00.51 seconds.
