Jack Brown and Razorback Nicole Menzel dominate in Missouri - 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Day one of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals saw the scintillating performance of Jack Brown and Razorback Nicole Menzel in Missouri, on Wednesday, July 20.
The first session of the meet conducted several distinctive swims, where Jack Brown earned the gold medal in the Men’s 200m breast-stroke event, while Razorback Nicole Menzel captured the golden crown in the Women’s 800m freestyle meet. Rachel Ripley snagged
the Women’s 200m breast-stroke title, whereas, Ben Bravence clinched the Men’s 800m freestyle crown.
Brown won the Men’s 200m breast-stroke title with a winning time of 2 minutes and 16.56 seconds. Most importantly, she beat Michael Bruce’s previous record of 2 minutes and 20.52 seconds, set back in 2000. That impressive performance also moved him to top
spot in the international rankings of the current year.
Meanwhile, KC Blazer Michael Glenn earned the silver medal with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 22.44 seconds, while Razorback's Dexter Thomas notched the bronze title in a time of 2 minutes and 23.56 seconds.
In the Women’s 800m freestyle relay, Razorback Nicole Menzel secured the gold medal with a victorious time of 8 minutes and 48.29 seconds. She also broke Britta Massengale’s record of 8 minutes and 53.55 seconds, set back in 2002. In the meantime, Kansas'
Rebecca Swank captured the silver title with a time of 8 minutes and 56.02 seconds, whereas, Razorback's Sigrun Sverrisdottir earned bronze in a time of 9 minutes and 05.20 seconds.
The Women’s 200m breast-stroke crown was taken over by Rachel Ripley with a winning time of 2 minutes and 33.10 seconds, while Emily Dibenigno wound up second in 2 minutes and 37.59 seconds. The bronze title went to Rec Plex's Abby Hempen in a time of 2
minutes and 38.35 seconds.
Additionally, Ben Bravence took home the Men’s 800m freestyle title with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 23.02 seconds. Nicholas Davis of Rockwood finished second in 8 minutes and 26.78 seconds, whereas, KC Blazer James Foster earned third place honours
with a time of 8 minutes and 27.37 seconds.
