Jack Burke Jr. will hold the William D. Richardson Award at dinner
Jack Burke Jr. will now be adding the 2011 William D. Richardson Award in his long list of achievements.
The golfing idol is eighty seven years old and added one more honour to his long list of achievements after the announcement. The award has been presented by the Golf Writers Association and is reported to hand out one of its most
esteemed awards in the coming months.   
The co-founder of Champions Golf Club hails from Houston and has a total of 17 professional wins.
The William D. Richardson Award was announced on Monday by the Golf Writers Association (GWAA) due to Jack’s exceptional contributions in the game of golf. The golfer from U.S thus added the honour in his long list of awards which
includes the likes of World Golf Hall of Fame, the Vardon Trophy, PGA Player of the Year, the PGA Tour Lifetime, the Achievement Award and the Bob Jones Award.
Burke accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Bob Jones Award in 2003 where as the Player of the Year way back in 1956. The 87-year-old received the player of the year award due to his Masters victory as well as the PGA
Championship in the same year.
The award would be handed out to the much-liked golfer on the 6th of April 2011 which is exactly one dark before the Masters.
The Richardson Award is named after ‘The William D. Richardson’ who was employed at the New York Times. Richardson handed out one of the most important contributions in forming the GWAA in the year 1964.
Previously, the Richardson Award has been handed out to golfers like, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Babe Zaharias, Ben Hogan, Dwight Eisenhower and Lee Trevino, along with them Gene Sarazen, Nancy Lopez, Judy Rankin, Kathy Whitworth,
and the Harmon family has also been awarded with the same honour.
Among other worthies, the dinner would honour golfers like Steve Stricker, Graeme McDowell, Yani Tseng and Bernhard Langer. Along with the earlier stated, Barbara Douglas; who is the USGA Women’s Committee chairman, will also recieve
the same honour.
The Chairman has been fighting with ovarian cancer which was diagnosed in the year 2009. With severe poor health and a bodily handicap, the female dignitary is also the holder of the Ben Hogan Award due to her continued participation
in golf.
As for Stricker, the golfer is the winner of 9 Tours and has been the recipient of ASAP Sports Jim Murray Award for cooperation and accommodation with the media.
