Jack Conger overpowers Men’s 50m freestyle heats – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Jack Conger of USA overpowered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 50m freestyle on fourth day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
Conger demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the qualification round and made his way to the playoff as top favourite swimmer for gold medal. With his alarming pace, he gained a comfortable lead over his opponents and hit the wall for first position.
He dictated terms to his challengers in the one-lap freestyle event as he occupied the fastest spot of the event with a timing of 22.72 seconds.
Conger was traced by Erik Risolvato of USA, who stayed 0.26 seconds slower from him over the finishing end and secured second best qualifying position by touching the wall with a timing of 22.98 seconds.
Risolvato was trailed by Regan Leong of Australia, who stayed 0.18 seconds behind and transpired on the wall as third fastest swimmer to reach the playoff by producing a time of 23.16 seconds.
Leong was followed by his compatriot, Andrew Digby, who stayed two arm strokes behind and qualified as fourth best finisher by hitting the wall with a timing of 23.50 seconds.
Digby was traced by Toru Maruyama of Japan, who suffered a loss of 0.25 seconds from his foregoing finisher and secured fifth fastest spot of the event by producing a time of 23.75 seconds.
Maruyama was chased by Takeshi Kawamoto of Japan, who remained only 0.06 seconds away from him and clocked an effort of 23.81 seconds.
Seventh finest qualifying position of the race was obtained by Omar Arafa of Canada, who stayed 0.14 seconds behind and secured seventh position of the event by producing a time of 23.95 seconds.
Similarly, Arafa enjoyed an advantage of Chen Ho Jeremy Wong of Hong Kong, who secured eighth fastest qualification spot of the event by tapping the wall with a timing of 24.01 seconds.
Conger received massive admiration from the crowd for securing fastest qualification spot and aroused hopes of his supporters by saying that he would try his best to occupy gold medal of the event.
