Jack Conger secures Men’s 200m backstroke gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Jack Conger of USA secured gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke on day three of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Saturday, August 25.
Conger astonished the crowd with his mind-blowing form in the 200m event as he devastated hopes of his opponents and reached the finishing blockade for the crown of the event.
Conger remained two and a half body lengths ahead of his strongest rival as he showed his urgency towards the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.20 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Keita Sunama of Japan, who stayed 2.37 seconds slower and grabbed silver medal of the race by submitting an effort of 1 minute and 59.57 seconds.
Sunama was followed by Corey Main of New Zealand, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and reached the victory stand for bronze medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 59.67 seconds.
Main was followed by Takeshi Kawamoto of Japan, who stayed half body length behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 2 minutes and 01.06 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was secured by Alex Katz of USA, who was 0.06 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 01.12 seconds.
Katz was trailed by Jordan Harrison of Australia, who suffered a deficit of two body lengths and appeared on the finishing blockade as sixth fastest swimmer by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.06 seconds.
Subsequently, Harrison remained 0.77 seconds ahead of his teammate, Jared Gilliland, who made his way to the finishing blockade as seventh fastest finisher by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.83 seconds.
Last spot of the event was secured by Dimitar Ivanov of Canada, who was one and a half body length behind and emerged on the wall as eighth position holder with an effort of 2 minutes and 05.46 seconds.
Conger was pleased with his meticulous form in the race and received his medal after the race.
