Jack Dempsey vs Joe Louis Who Wins?

Louis would win.  Louis was faster and more skillful than Dempsey.  He's got quicker hands and all his punches were thrown correctly, that is, short and crisp.  He punched in sustained combinations and had devastating KO power in both hands.  Of course, Dempsey was strong and could also hit like a mule.  He'd swarm all over his opponent with non-stop punching.   But the Brown Bomber had sound defensive skills too.  He'd block, parry and bob and weave out of harm's way.  If the fight were held in a phone booth, Dempsey might win, but in the ring, he'd have no chance against Louis, who's simply got more skills and great ring generalship to thwart any Dempsey aggression.  I'd say Louis would win by KO in the late rounds or by unanimous decision.

Aldo C your answer is appaling, I think joe louis would win this fight, it would be very close since both fighters have a lot of power and heart but Louis had more technical skill and that would have given him the edge in the score cards.

I think that this would have been a brutal fight of the legends.  Dempsey always came to fight looking to get inside from his bob and weave style of fighting.  He did not really use a jab all that much.  He also had good stamina and chin and would need it against Louis.  Both of these guys are about even in the power department and Louis is the better boxer with an outstanding jab.  Louis doesn't have the great footwork of a Tunney, so he would get hit more often than Tunney did and possibly go down a few times in this fight.  I could see Dempsey surprising Louis early on and sending him to the canvas.  Louis would get up and land some power shots getting Dempsey's respect.  Louis would land some power shots of his own and send Dempsey down for a brief count in round 9.  Dempsey would get to his feet and fight hard against the Brown Bomber.  Stamina would be a key here and they are fairly even in this department so the fight would be real close to the end with both men battered and bruised at the end.  Louis wins by split decision in the fight of the century.

tough because both are in the top 5 all time without a doubt i personally say dempsey only because he is arguably the best of all time other than ali.... but louis could put up a great fight so id say id have a hard time betting on this one.... i like both these guys alot

i have always agreed with what ali once said.that joe louis is a bag of sand with a jab.dempsey was an animal who would ko louis any day of the year.louis had a bum of the month thing going on and most of them were exactly that bums.
