  1. Cannot really top Galactacus comments here, anyone who seriously think Johnson(a capable but limited fighter)could beat Rocky Marciano wants their head examining, simply ludicrous,I think there's only Blog babble and a couple of others who would say such a stupid remark like the spindly Johnson beating Rocky,

  2. rocky by ko

  3. It would take longer than 3 rounds but I have always maintained that, because styles make fights, Marciano would beat Johnson.  Jack was a pioneer.  However, he fought in an era when boxers didn't concern themselves much with defense and there was no such thing as combination punching.

The simple thing that made Jack so much better than the rest is that he knew how to throw straight punches where most others didn't.  He would have no such advantage over Rocky.

As always you have to consider the rules of the time.  Jack was before Dempsey and the birth of the standing 8 count.  Rocky was after.  I think that it could be agreed that the rules got better as time passed.  So let's go with the rules of the 50s rather than those of 1910.

Jack would stick that jab in Rocky's face all night long.  However, many give Johnson credit for being a master of defense.  He was.  Many also mistakenly compare him to Muhammad Ali.  He was nothing like Ali.  In truth, Johnson was more like a poor man's Larry Holmes.

Larry had a great jab but didn't move on his feet the way Ali did.  The same holds true for Johnson.  Even Gene Tunney, feet of clay compared to Ali, had better foot work than Johnson.  Again, Johnson was great but the fighters of his time were strong but very limited in technique.   So Marciano's no technitian either.  What makes him better than those of Johnson's era?

The mind.  Many of the men Jack fought went in with one objective.  Beat his black @$$.  They fought for many of the wrong reasons.   Rocky would fight to win.  Race might become an issue but it certainly would not be THE factor in the fight.  There was no color line during Marciano's time.  Some have accused him of receiving some partial treatment but the same might even hold true today.   The bottom line is that Rocky fought the best AVALIABLE competition.  The same can not be said for Dempsey.

Jack would use the jab.  The reason he's a poor man's Larry Holmes is because Larry didn't grab and clinch nearly as much as Johnson did.  Rocky would not allow for this.   While Jack clinches,  Rocky would crouch lower and cause Jack to leave himself exposed.  Rocky would attack the body everytime Jack clinched.

Johnson didn't have the foot work to stay away from Marciano all night long.   Ali would stay ahead of the Rock but Jack would enjoy no such advantage.   He could certainly ''out step'' Rocky but he could never stay away long enough to prevent Rocky from doing what he does best.

Jack would land mad uppercuts and maybe even score a knockdown early in the fight.   He would fail to keep Rocky on the deck.  Jack had good stamina but I'm sure Rocky would have the edge in this category.  He would keep Jack on the defensive.  Clinching, which is what Jack loved to do,  is the worst strategy for him.  Rocky would work the body and slow Jack down for the later rounds.

Rocky would suffer his share of cuts but not enough to stop the fight.  Jack was a sharp puncher but, again,  Rocky would keep him too busy to allow him to land frequently enough to force a win on cuts.

In round 11 a surprise uppercut stuns Johnson.  A straight right puts him on the deck.  Jack rises but he is not the runner many think he is.  He attempts to hold Rocky to slow him down.  Rocky slips under and lands another right and a left as Jack goes down again.  Again he rises but is put down for the final time with a straight right to the jaw.

    Marciano by KO in 11

  4. It would be a fool, and only complete ignoramus.like the Blog babble triplets lol)who would bet against Rocky Marciano, watch the 2 closely and please don't tell me this gangly stick insect would live against the Rock,Marciano KO round 5.Look at how Willard ko'd Johnson, and he was a circus clown who didn't star boxing till he was 30.please be serious

  5. i put johnson higher on the all time heavyweight  list than marciano (not by much though)

johnson would control this from the outside, and would tie up the rock on the inside.

if a 38 year old jersey joe walcott can outbox marciano, johnson will too....johnson by wide decision over 15.

  6. Rocky was a slugger and Johnson a boxer. In that situation you would have to go with Johnson.

  7. Boxer v Brawler. My money's on the Boxer. He could take a punch, and, his stamina was phenomenal. Over 15, 3 minute rounds, on points.

  8. Over 13 of Johnson`s fights were against fighters who had never fought before or never won before. He was a career bully. His great victory for the heavyweight championship was against a 5ft 7in fighter who weighed 168lbs. He was decked by a middleweight and lost his belt to a overgrown cowboy who didn`t start boxing till the age of 30. He was defeated early in his career by one of the worst heavyweight champions ever in Marvin Hart. His record is built up on farm hands and construction workers. He had the great fortune to come along when the heavyweight championship was at it`s lowest point

Plain and simple he couldn`t carry Marciano`s jock strap. Johnson stays relatively elusive till 2nd round when he is caught flushed and KO`ed..
