Jack Lisowski loses battle to Kurt Maflin at the China Open Qualifiers – Snooker news
Young cueist, Jack Lisowski lost his first qualifier of China Open 2011 to Kurt Maflin yesterday at World Snooker Academy, Sheffield. The match was full of thrill and excitement as a classy display of outstanding potting from both cuemen made the match more
enchanting and enthusiastic. The competition was undoubtedly the most stunning one of day-two qualifiers at the China Open.
Norwegian cueist, Maflin, winner of IBSF World Championship 2006, took the scrappy first frame 62-59 with a difference of just three points to click a 1-0 lead. The young Lisowski turned the Norwegian’s hopes down when he struck back in the next frame to
make his presence felt hitting a stunning century-clearance of 116. He clinched the frame 0-120, equalising the score at 1-1.
The 27-year-old Maflin did not let go easy as he bounced back in the very next frame and fired an impressive 95 break to clinch the frame 95-0. He could have hit his first century of the match if he had not missed a long red down the cushion to get a 2-1
lead. However, Maflin’s lead could not last long because the young Englishman overcame the Norwegian, clearing the table 14-106 firing a classy 106 to level the game again at 2-2.
Maflin then succeeded scoring his first century of 115 in the fifth round to lead again in the game 3-2, with a frame win of 115-17 before the interval. With the help of some decent small breaks, Lisowski paddled himself back into the game after the interval
and won the sixth frame 68-1 to balance the game at 3-3.
A beautiful 61 from Maflin could not stop Lisowski take a 3-4 lead in the game for the first time as he hit 56 in the seventh frame to finish it 68-61. After that, it was Kurt Maflin ruling the table as he fired a brilliant 140 clearance in the eighth frame
to lead the match into a decider frame which he easily countered with his awesome 76 and stormed into the third round of China Open 2011 qualifiers.
Frame scores of the match were 62-59, 0-120, 95-0, 14-106, 115, 17, 1-68, 61-68, 140-0 and 77-0. The Norwegian will face Dave Harold in the next qualifier.
Meanwhile, four Chinese played their second qualifiers including Liu Song, Liu Chuang, Zhang Anda, Xiao Goudong and only one of them, Song, got through to the third round of the qualifiers whitewashing Drain Gunnell 5-0. Liu Chuang lost to Jimmy White 5-3
who will face the compatriot Peter Lines in the next round.
Alfie Burden defeated Zhang Anda 5-1 to book his spot against Matthew Selt of England. Joe Jogia is set to face Anthony Hamilton in his second qualifier after beating China’s Xiao Guodong 5-2.
