Jack Nicklaus approves the changes made in the Centenary Course
The Centenary Course at the Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland, is thought to be a modern classic. It is truly a masterpiece and it is considered one of the best courses in the world. The course has been created by Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus is still considered one of the best players on the face of the earth. He has made great contributions to the game.
In his career, he bagged 18 major titles and 115 professional wins. He is also a part of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Now he has retired but still is considered a golf icon.
Currently, he is 72 years old and still plays his part in the world of gold. Recently, he designed the golf course of the Gleneagles Hotel, the PGA Centenary Course. Designing this course was a big challenge even for the golf legend and the accomplished
golf architect.
The retired American professional golfer visited the Gleneagles Hotel on the 28th of June 2012, to see the changes made in the newly reopened PGA Centenary Course.
The new and improved course is also going to be the host of the most prestigious event in golf, the Ryder Cup, in the year 2014.
The course was reopened for public on the 28th of April 2012, after going through extensive changes. The Golden Bear and his Nicklaus Design team helped in making the changes.
After visiting the course, Jack Nicklaus said in an interview, “When I was asked to do the course more than 20 years ago, in those days it was a pretty challenging golf course. With the equipment and the golf ball and everything going so much further it
needed alterations”.
He also talked about the 18th hole of the course and the changes made to it. He said, “It's not a very difficult hole but it's exciting, there will be birdies and eagles and bogeys on it and you're going to get shots that change hands”.
“It’s more about creating good golf than creating the most difficult shots and course in the world. It’s about creating one that the guys will enjoy - and I think they will enjoy it”.
Jack Nicklaus is of the opinion that the course is perfect for golf. It will be very interesting to test the elite golfers of the world here. He did say that there are some things that need to be changed, the rest is fine.
