Jack Nicklaus nominated for the Congressional Gold Medal
Jack Nicklaus has been nominated for the honour of the Congressional Gold Medal due to his long years of service to golf.
The 72-year-old American Golden Bear has been serving professional golf since 1961. He is the only player in the entire world, who is committed, motivated and excited to play golf every time he sets foot on the course.
He has earned several achievements, awards, tournament victories and made a record of 18-time major event winner. Now the House of Representatives selected him for another award.
Nicklaus has also shown interest in humanitarian work. He did charity and was involved in many worldwide causes, to support humanity and mankind.
He currently runs the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation. This non-profit charity organisation is supporting many needy children and their families in an effective way.
Recently, more than $12 million were raised for another cause and to support pediatric health services.
Nicklaus has given his life to golf. He played hundreds of tournaments and won most of them. On the top of the list, his 18 major wins are impressive and an unbreakable record up till now.
He made his debut major win in 1962, at the US Open and ended his major winning career in 1986 at the Masters Tournament.
Meanwhile, he finished several times among the top-10 players on the leaderboard. Similarly, he has also recorded 8 victories on the Champions Tour major events.
His PGA Tour victories are also attractive, as he has won 73 times at the PGA staged events, from 1962 to 1986. He also has a record of 22 other tournament wins and 10 Senior PGA Tour wins.
Nicklaus is the most popular golf player in the world. There is no other golfer in the current times who can break such impressive records. Now the time has come to add the elite award to his list of achievements.
The Congressional Gold Medal is an elite award. There are a few players in history, who were nominated for this honour, and Nicklaus is among them.
Normally, this award is presented to military leaders, public servants, athletes and artists. Last time, it was presented in 2010, to the World War II veterans and now it is for the Golden Bear, Nicklaus.
