Jack Rodwell moves to Everton Football Club
Everton Football Club have proudly announced that their teen prodigy Jack Rodwell has signed a new 5 year extension to his contract which will tie him to Goodisson park until the end of 2015’s season. Jack Rodwell had seen his stocks rise in the market after a series of strong performances for his Merseyside outfit this season with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all interested in his services.
The England Under-21 International however after having a word with their manager David Moyes decided that it’s perhaps in his best interest to tie his future to the blue side of Liverpool. Although Rodwell had only signed a five-year contract with his club in 2009 only but after a magnificent season for the toffees he was offered a new and improved contract. The news will come as a minor blow to Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United who was preparing a bid in the region of 15 million pound versatile midfielder who can also play as a centre half as Ferguson was preparing to build a British core to his team as his Manchester United side prepare for one last season with veterans like Giggs, Scholes and Neville.
However Rodwell has snubbed the reported interest in him as he signed for his club which he thinks will provide him with a better first team opportunities and a greater ambition as his side will look to challenge for a Champions League spot next season. Rodwell did not get carried away by the potential riches of the Old Trafford outfit as he commits his future to Everton in a deal that is expected to be around 30000 pounds per week. Rodwell’s manager David Moyes was very pleased to have secured the signature of his multi talented player and said in an interview "I'm very pleased that Jack has signed an improved contract because it re-affirms Everton's ambition to challenge the top clubs.
I want to keep all the players we have here to make us stronger in the coming season."
Jack Rodwell made his Premier league debut for the toffees against Sunderland in March of 2008 and since then has gone on to become a first team regular. Rodwell also became the youngest player to represent Everton at the European stage when he made his European debut for his side appearing as a substitute in a UEFA Cup tie against AZ Alkmar at the age of 16 year and 284 days, that record has however been beaten by Jake bidwell last December. The 6 foot 3 inches tall midfielder has represented his country at the Under-16, Under 17 and Under 21 levels and has also scored twice for the under 21 side.
Rodwell also has netted twice for Everton both times in the last season with his last effort coming against Manchester United in a 3-1 win for his side when he set off on a mazy run from inside his own box to slot easily past Edvin Der Sar to guarantee his side a win against the then reigning champions.
