Jack Swagger vs. Rey Mysterio No Disqualification Match; Battle Goes to the Gulf of Mexico; Ends in No Contest
It was one of the most brutal matches on SmackDown in recent weeks. Last week, Rey Mysterio defeated Jack Swagger to become the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Jack Swagger thought that he deserved the chance to fight Kane for the World Heavyweight Championship title.
During a No Disqualification Match, there are no rules and everything goes. It means that a wrestler can beat his opponent with anything and the referee has no right to stop the match. The match was scheduled because Jack Swagger thought that he deserved to be the top contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. This kind of match suits the aggressive wrestling style of Jack Swagger, and he said in an interview that he would take the fight to the very limit.
Jack Swagger indeed took the match to the very limit as the referee announced the start of the No Disqualification Match. Jack Swagger knew that a referee has very little powers during a No Disqualification Match. Jack Swagger started the match as he cornered Rey Mysterio and delivered devastating punches to his face. Rey Mysterio, who is a technical wrestler, struggled to counter Jack Swagger’s punches. Jack Swagger then threw Rey Mysterio to the ring corner and banged his body on all turn buckles at the same time. Rey Mysterio then replied to the attacks of Jack Swagger by delivering a stylish but effective standing drop kick to Jack Swagger’s jaw.
Jack Swagger then tried to trap Rey Mysterio in the dreaded Ankle Lock, but Rey Mysterio countered the move. Jack Swagger rolled in the air and banged his own head on the steel steps. Rey Mysterio was countering the raw aggressive force of Jack Swagger by executing extremely technical moves. Rey Mysterio then executed a beautiful move as he climbed on the top turn buckle and then landed on Jack Swagger’s neck. Everything was going against Jack Swagger as Rey Mysterio continued to dominate the match. Jack Swagger needed to rethink his strategy because he knew that he could not overcome the technical wrestling manoeuvres of Rey Mysterio with brute force.
But then Jack Swagger turned the match around as he picked up Rey Mysterio high in the air and banged his body on the boundary wall outside the ring. That was the sign for darker things to come as the match shifted in Jack Swagger’s favour from that point. The referee did not object to that move as everything was legal during that match. Jack Swagger continued to punch every part of Rey Mysterio’s body. The carnage continued as Jack Swagger picked up Rey Mysterio like a small toy and threw him over the second boundary wall. The situation was getting darker for the ultimate underdog, Rey Mysterio.
Jack Swagger was relentlessly beating Rey Mysterio and took him outside the arena. Jack Swagger then picked up Rey Mysterio and walked on the road outside the arena. It was an insane moment as the crowd followed Jack Swagger outside to witness the carnage. No one knew the real intentions of Jack Swagger but then everyone realized what was happening: Jack Swagger was about to throw Rey Mysterio in the Gulf of Mexico.
Then everything changed as Rey Mysterio delivered devastating kicks to Jack Swagger’s abdomen. Rey Mysterio then jumped in the air to grab Jack Swagger’s neck with his legs. Rey Mysterio rolled Jack Swagger in the air and then threw him deep in the water. That was the end of the No Disqualification Match (even though no winner was determined) as Jack Swagger called for help while gasping for air as he tried to swim in the water.
Wrestling pundits believe that more drama will unfold on Friday Night SmackDown next week, as Jack Swagger will return to take revenge.
