Jack Wilshere Red Card against Birmingham City
English Premier League’s one of the top contenders, Arsenal, secured their fourth win of the season out of eight matches, last weekend. The Gunners defeat Birmingham City by two goals to one at their home, Emirates. It was an important
win for Arsene Wenger man, as they entered this fixture having lost two consecutive matches in English Premier League, one against Chelsea in an away fixture and the other defeat was in the hands of newly promoted West Bromwich Albion at home.
However, Arsenal dominating win over Birmingham was tainted by the red card shown to Jack Wilshere in the dying stages of the match. Arsenal young gun, who has been extremely impressive since the start of the season, ruthlessly tackled
Birmingham City new signing Nikola Zigic in the 90th minute. The referee Martin Atkinson straightforwardly shown him the red card and sent him off the pitch.
It was exactly the type of tackle that Arsene Wenger has been talking about recently; luckily Birmingham player did not suffer a serious injury as a result of harsh tackle from Jack Wilshere. The challenge resulted from a poor touch by
Arsenal teenage midfield prodigy, which he tried to chase as it got away from him.
However, Jack Wilshere went in studs-first and caught Birmingham’s player right on the ankle and the referee took no time in showing English midfielder a straight red.
Jack Wilshere was at loan on English Premier League club, Bolton Wanderers. Since his return from that club, he had been seen making such harsh tackles in the last few games. Thankfully, Jack Wilshere didn't connect with his opponents
so badly on the other occasions, but it is definitely something which he needs to remove from his game. Without a doubt, he is a quality player and committed tackler but you cannot slide in studs-first without a risking a serious injury to your opponent.
Earlier in the match, there was an incident when the 6 feet 8 inches giant of Birmingham City, Nikola Zigic turned his should into Jack’s face and caught him. Well that incident might have forced Arsenal young immature gun, Wilshere, to
take revenge from the ‘giant’ by tackling studs-first on his ankle. That's the type of thing that just cannot be proven either way or it brings up the ugly possibility of intent.
After the game Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said that the tackle deserved a red card, and he couldn't really say anything else after his protest about exactly those types of tackles recently.
Moreover, Jack Wilshere also agreed that he deserved to be sent off after such harsh tackle, and said he would learn from this point on and ensured that people would not get to see such challenges from him in future.
Arsenal have had three red cards already this season, which is in its early stages, but it is important to mention that the last red card which Arsenal earned for the violent conduct was three years back.
Arsenal’s style of play is fully delicate and undoubtedly they play the world’s most fair football. That’s why they earned the trophy of Fair Play last season. The Gunners don’t play harsh football just like some other Premier League clubs
who look at the physical aspect of the game only. But this season, Jack Wilshere is an exception. Even, it would not be new thing to see such tackles coming from him in future because he was the player who trained at one of the most physical-play-lover club
Bolton Wanderers last season.
All in all, Jack Wilshere was easily Arsenal's best performer on the field, but a late, reckless challenge in the dying stages of the match, tainted some of his lightening performance and even ensured he will miss the next three domestic
matches.
