Arsenal number 19 Jack Wilshere wishes to emulate Cesc Fabregas in his rise up to the top, and wants to one day be the successor of the captain’s armband.
With Fabregas’ future high on the speculation list (he is constantly being linked to a move back to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 – possibly to Barcelona FC), the 18-year-old is more than willing to fill in the void left by the Arsenal number 4 - given
that he does decide to head back to his home club. Praising his captain, Wilshere said:
"He’s great to me, always has been [a hero]. He’s been there before – I think he looks at me and thinks: ‘yeah, I’ve done that’. From when I was 16 he was automatically someone to look up to, especially being the type of player
I am and the position I play in. He’s a great leader and I want to be like that when I’m older. It’s always been part of my game, and that’s my aim really – to be Arsenal captain one day.”
Wilshere feels more inclined towards taking the Fabregas path since both players arguably have the same role in midfield – orchestrating the Arsenal attack.
Reflecting upon how far he’s come at such a young age, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 U-21 believes that his inclusion in the first-team squad was down to his ability to step up a notch when needed – it was all about constantly improving, fuelled
by relentless hard work.
"Even if things come naturally, you have to do that first of all. The boss has shown faith in me over the past few months and I’ve demonstrated that I can keep my head at this level." commented Wilshere.
The 18-year-old, despite demonstrating his attacking flair and comfort in holding possession, was still critical over his tackling.
"Tackling is something that various well-decorated veterans, let alone a youngster at the beginning of his career, are yet to master – as well as being an art that, it sometimes seems, is dying a slow death,” said the youngster.
Wilshere was quick to concede that while certain things come naturally to him, tackling wasn’t one of them. However, he further added that for the position that he plays, it is an extremely important aspect to have mastered. Taking
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394 for example - the Manchester United veteran has been an integral cog of their machine. While Scholes’ playmaking is exemplary, he often picks up unnecessary cautions on ‘mistimed’ challenges.
Coming back to Wilshere, however, from his views it is evident that not only is the 18-year-old blessed with quick feet, he also has a strong head on his shoulders. It is perhaps hard to argue otherwise that the combination well
and truly puts him on course to emulate his skipper in years to come.
