Jackdaw Summer wins the January 545 event at Mildenhall
Breaking from trap 1 as the most favourite runner with starting price of 2 to 1, Jackdaw Summer won the Grade OR January event of 545m category at Mildenhall on January 15.
The winner fought against Blackrose Boss, Mays Rocknroller, Gottabe Kinda, Melford Blue and Honeygar Rose.
The break call came at 15:15. Jackdaw Summer started well, got baulked first, and then ran on smoothly. The black dog was in good form and seemed to be unusually aggressive. Throughout the time, he did not let any of his competitors threaten his lead.
Blackrose Boss tried to challenge him potentially on some occasions but failed.
Finally, the son of Top Honcho reached the finish line in 34.39. Whelped in November 2007, he started his career in November, 2011. The dog is trained by J Barnard who anticipated that his trainee would carry forward his winning streak to the upcoming
events as well.
The veteran dog has an excellent track record. He has brought home a number of iconic titles. This victory is a prelude of a successful year for him provided he continues to race.
The racer to bag the second position was Blackrose Boss, who broke from trap 6. Whelped in November 2009, the white and black dog trailed by 1 ¼ lengths. In the beginning of the race, he had an excellent momentum, which started fading soon and he stared
lagging.
However, the son of Droopys Kewell continued to fight and finished in 34.49 seconds. It was for the 6th time the dog ended up with this position in his career which began in June, 2011. The trainee of E J Cantillon has very
few victories to his credit so far.
The third position in the race went to Mays Rocknroller, who lagged by 2 lengths to the runner up. Breaking from trap 2, the black dog bridged the distance in 34.66 seconds. Trained by P Goodfellow, the dog demonstrated clear run throughout the time.
Whelped in April 2007, this hound is also a son of Droopys Kewell.
At the end of the event, Jackdaw Summer earned £150, while each of the other five hounds banked £20. As a whole, it was a fabulous event which the local spectators enjoyed a lot.
