Jackie Barenborg ties for 85th position in first round of Credit Union Challenge
American Jackie Barenborg, who displayed a good performance in the last edition of the Credit Union Challenge, faltered in the first round of the current edition being played at Capital Hills, Albany.
Barenborg is among the strong contenders in the roster of the Credit Union Challenge 2012, a Symetra Tour event that was played under title of Price Chopper Tour Championship in the 2011 season, but her hopes
of grabbing the top spot dashed after she got off to a poor start in the opening round.
The American star posted a 73 to tie for the 85th position on the leaderboard, and the second round is likely to get tougher as players piled up big scores on the first day.
Although the defending champion of the tournament, Sydnee Michaels from the United States, is in the roster, lesser-known players kept former star performers from moving ahead.
Barenborg kicked off the round in an unimpressive style, a she recorded bogeys on the first two holes. She then parred the next two holes and carded another bogey on the par-4 5th hole.
A series of bogeys rattled the star golfer because she seemed to lose hope on the front nine. The struggling American parred the 6th hole, but the difficult par-3 7th hampered her from
playing balanced strokes and she ended up posting her fourth bogey.
On the back nine, all she could do was record a birdie on the 16th, which apparently was not enough to help her improve her position on the leaderboard.
Barenborg played among some of the big names in the last edition of the Credit Union Challenge, but she did not look under pressure for a moment. She came close to defeating her rivals at one stage but when
the dust settled, she had finished tied for the fourth position on the leaderboard.
She had made a stunning start at the Price Chopper Tour Championship, as she posted a 66. In the second round, she had kept her momentum going as she registered a 67.
Commentators said that Barenborg’s performance in the current edition of the Symetra Tour event is nothing like what she did last year. However, they pointed out that she is capable enough to make a comeback
in the next two rounds.
