Jackie Rudolph clinches Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day three – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Jackie Rudolph of Una NCAC-NC clinched gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Saturday, July 14.
The third day of the tournament concluded after the playoffs of 400m freestyle in Women and Men’s corner while the spectators enjoyed commendable efforts of their youth.
Rudolph served notice of her talent in the eight-lap freestyle discipline, where she showed no signs of slowing down and paved her way to the medal rostrum for gold medal.
She faced fierce battle from her strongest challenger throughout the discipline but with her epic pace, she managed to outperform her over the finishing wall for first position by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 20.64 seconds.
The champion was followed by Kylie Stewart of DYNA-GA, who stayed 0.02 seconds away from her and settled on the wall as second position holder by posting a time of 4 minutes and 20.66 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Bryn Handley of Lakeside-KY, who stayed almost six seconds behind and made her way to the finishing blockade as third position holder by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 26.42 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Kathleen Cook of DYNA-GA, who stayed 0.37 seconds apart and occupied fourth position of the discipline by posting a time of 4 minutes and 26.79 seconds.
Subsequently, Cook enjoyed an advantage of one and a half body length over Alli Crenshaw of DYNA-GA, who finished fifth in the race by touching the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 28.20 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Brett Nagle in the Men’s 400m freestyle. The 22-year-old Nagle stayed in a considerable lead over his opponents and sprinted his way towards the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 4 minutes
and 00.07 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Cody Reul of SA-GA, who stayed 2.68 seconds apart and finished second in the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 02.75 seconds.
Reul was trailed by Nate Bond of Lakeside-KY, who remained 2.16 seconds apart and reached the finishing blockade as third position holder by posting a time of 4 minutes and 04.91 seconds.
Similarly, Bond was chased by Brian Via of Silver Bullet EL, who was 0.99 seconds behind and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 4 minutes and 05.90 seconds.
Via was traced by Bryce Bevier of SA-GA, who secured fifth position of the event with the timing of 4 minutes and 10.03 seconds.
In addition, Rudolph and Nagle were pleased with their performance in the mediocre distance freestyle event.
