Jackie Rudolph wins Girls 800m freestyle gold: Day one – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Jackie E Rudolph of UNC-NC won gold medal of the Girls 800m freestyle playoff on opening day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro at the Star Aquatics on Thursday, March 8.
The USA Sectionals is a four-day swimming event, which is a part of the 2012 Speedo Champions Series.
The 20-year-old Rudolph exceeded expectations of her supporters as she outsmarted her opponents with a considerable distance in the Long Course distant freestyle event. With her impressive performance, she remained almost two body lengths ahead of her challengers and touched the finishing wall for gold medal.
She demonstrated her smothering efforts and acquired gold medal of the event in a time of 8 minutes and 55.84 seconds. The gold medallist remained nearly six seconds away from her strongest competitor, Rebecca A Postoll of RAYS-GA, who transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by clocking 9 minutes and 01.35 seconds.
The third position of the swim was secured by Leah C Stevens of LAK-KY, who stayed 3.76 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 9 minutes and 05.11 seconds. She was trailed by Kylie N Stewart of DYNA-GA, who was approximately two seconds slower from overpowering the efforts of bronze medallist and ended fourth with an effort of 9 minutes and 07.01 seconds.
Subsequently, Stewart’s teammate, Haley J Durmer remained prominent for fifth position of the race as she clocked a time of 9 minutes and 08.17 seconds. She was followed by her team-member, Julia L Durmer, who was just 0.97 seconds apart and ended her swim in sixth place by posting a time of 9 minutes and 09.14 seconds.
Kendall A Pena of MOR-NC was the seventh best finisher of the race as she produced an effort of 9 minutes and 11.09 seconds. The 17-year-old Pena was chased by Emily G Ranzau of DYNA-GA, who hit the wall with an effort of 9 minutes and 12.44 seconds.
The arena admired ruthless sprints of all participants whereas the championship will conclude on March 11 after the conclusion of all planned swimming events.
