Jackie Silva appointed as coach of women’s youth and junior teams in Brazil
The 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch Youth World Championship is scheduled to take place in coming July in the Mediterranean country Cyprus, which will be attended by the brightest young beach volleyball stars from around the world.
Likewise, the Junior World Championship will be hosted by Canada in August. Since the international events are swiftly approaching, the volleyball federations all across the globe are busy getting their teams ready for the challenging feat. Teams from the
‘home of beach volleyball’ Brazil will also be on board to showcase their terrific skills.
In this regard, the Brazilian Volleyball Federation (CBV) is busy working on athletes. Last Friday, the CBV appointed the former Olympic champion and star player of yesteryears, Jackie Silva, as the coach of women’s youth and junior teams. Silva joined the
twosome of supervisor Jorge Barros and Coach Marcos Antonio, who were already attached with the teams. Now the trio will put up combined efforts to help the young crop of players of the South American country.
Silva happily accepted the offer of CBV and seemed glad at the opportunity of putting her experience in the right direction. She will be responsible for the performance of women’s youth and junior teams at the FIVB Youth World Championships.
Speaking of her role as coach, she said, “Even when I was playing, somehow I worked as a coach; transmitting my experience to the young players I teamed with, such as Sandra, Talita, Maria Clara and Juliana. I am really happy to be part of this project as
CBV is offering important support to the young players in the moment they most need of it, when they are not established yet.”
Silva really has a wealth of experience as she has been attached to the sport of volleyball for over four decades. She remained as part of the Brazilian women’s team and also gained experience by working with top teams of beach volleyball in Brazil. She
captured gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
Now that she will serve as the coach of women’s youth and junior teams, she will put up with the daunting task to achieve success at the international championships. The observation period for players’ selection has already begun but the final selection
will be made in May.
The CBV is optimistic that the addition of new coach will help them achieve their goals.
