Jackie Stewart offers help to Romain Grosjean to avoid racing accidents – Formula 1 news
Jackie Stewart, former F1 world champion believes Romain Grosjean, driver of team Lotus, can avoid on track mishaps if he takes his help.
He also believes that the Frenchman can win a race in the ongoing 2012 Formula 1 season.
Currently, there is no concept of coaching in Formula 1; however according to Stewart, good coaches can make a difference in the field of racing as well. As there are coaches in other sports and they help in improving the performances of the players, Stewart
thinks it is the case with racing as well.
Stewart also added if effective coaching is provided, it can help in avoiding mistakes during the races and can eventually lead to a decrease in accidents on the circuit.
Moreover, Stewart thinks that assistance of Alex Wurz in team Williams is fruitless as their driver Pastor Maldonado is still facing accidents. He further said that accidents are not caused by bad luck every time. Wurz’s coaching has not generated desired
results because incompetent people are hired, he said.
Stewart told Autosport.com, “I just said to Romain Grosjean the other day, it would be a good idea if you came up home one day for lunch so we could have a bit of chat. It is ridiculous that in Formula 1 we don't have coaches.”
“In tennis there are coaches and boxing, golf, skiing... everybody has one, but we don't. I am not looking to be a coach, but I know I can help him. Racing drivers historically have not been great listeners, but I think I might be able to help,” he added.
Grosjean is currently racing for the Lotus F1 team. He has an impressive record of holding GP2 Asia series and GP2 series titles. He is the only two times Asia champion. Until now, he has never won an F1 race nor does he hold any pole position.
Until the British Grand Prix held in 2012, he holds 61 points in total in the championship from the 9 races that have been held. In addition, he has retired out of 4 races as well.
Let’s see whether he manages to win a race this season or not.
