Jacko Gill resolves to break the 24m barrier in Shot Put  category – Athletics news
Jacko Gill, the 16-year-old shot putter from New Zealand, after strenuously qualifying for the World Youth Championships yesterday, has set his eyes over a new world record. While talking to media personnel in an interview, the stellar thrower said that
his goal was not just to earn a gold medal, but also to mark a throw of 24m to fortify his current record of 23.86m, which he observed at the Youth Olympic Games in 2010.
Looking into the fact that the youngster had already had marked an emphatic throw of 20.76m with a 6kg ball back in 2010 at the World Junior Championships in Athletics, it seems quite easy for the athlete to land his 5kg ball at 24m rather easily. In pursuit
of his resolve to mark a world leading distance in his category of shot put, the Kiwi has been training with a 7kg ball. The goal for doing so, of course, was to prepare himself for the London Olympics, but the efforts he has been putting will definitely help
him in hitting targets he had in mind even before coming to this prestigious athletics event in Lille.
Commenting about his preparation for a new record and for winning the title of the event, Gill said, “I already train mainly with the 7 kilogram shot and I definitely want to make it to the (London) Olympics. Hopefully I’ll be throwing 21 or even 22 metres
by then, so I really want to go and get a medal.”
While responding to a journalist who tried to assess the resolve of the young shot putter, Gill said that he was definitely looking for a medal and he was also trying hard to stay in form.
As commentators from around the world are expressing their delight over the quality of fields that have emerged in this year’s event for every discipline, Gill has been among the athletes who appeared on the field of the event as a pre-favourite. This status
given to him was quite justified as the world leader was not only entering into the tournament as a defending champion of his category, but amid his training, had already started talking about hitting a new best in this international event.
Moreover, in order to express the resolve for obtaining his targets, the Kiwi also made a good start which was enough not only to intimidate his rivals, but also to his spectators that they could expect something special from him.
However, the only thing that may create a hindrance for the stellar performer is his injured and soaring finger. If he manages to recover before the final battle of the event, the athlete will definitely have a good chance to hit the target he is currently
speaking of.
