Jackpot and Power: the hottest contenders of World Darts Championship
Known as the Jackpot of darts, Adrian Lewis, has finally been able to successfully defend his title for two consecutive years.
Lewis was able to claim victory in the grand finale of the event after defeating the finalist, Andy Hamilton, by 7-3 atin an epic match, held at Ally Pally.
With the help of this win, he has been able to include his name among players like Raymond van Barneveld and Eric Bristow, who were earlier to defended their titles even after 12 months of winning it.
In his post-match interview Lewis acknowledged that, “I was up until 5am and only got four hours sleep last night. But if adrenalin doesn't get you through a world final then you're going to struggle anyway".
He also admitted that, like Phil Taylor, he looks forward to win eight more championships before he can even think of retiring from the game.
The encounter overall was filled with various crests and troughs by both players as they battled fiercely to claim the title.
It is also important to mention here that the start of the game was not as unpredictable for Lewis as he hads anticipated, after he was able to make a tremendous comeback in the semi-final against James Wade.
He was able to start the game by winning the opening set, but, regardless of theLewis’ continuing dominion of Lewis on the game, Hamilton made every possible effort to make a comeback.
The result came in the form of a tie that could only have a fleeting existence, as the Jackpot was once again able to have a 3-2 lead in the game.
However, the joy and excitement of winning the championship would have turned manifold if Lewis would also have been able to make an additional 10,000 pounds.
He could have achieved that by hitting a nine dart finish that he missed by few centimetres. Nonetheless, he was ecstatic about lifting the trophy and the allocated cash prize.
The results of the grand finale were more or less anticipated by darts pundits, with Lewis being the hot favourite for the encounter.
In addition to this, excitement was further fuelled as people and darts fans all over the world were thrilled to see the next best player in the game after Phil Taylor.
