Jackson Akisu vows to destroy Jhonny Gonzalez
When International Boxing Organization Featherweight Champion “Action” Jackson Asiku speaks, people tend to listen. The 31-year-old Ugandan says that he will “destroy Jhonny Gonzalez” in a highly anticipated bout that will be held on 15 September at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas.
Asiku will be making his American debut in this fight, and has run up a 26-3 record with 14 KOs. He is very much looking forward to the match, and believes that he has what it takes to knock out his opponent. He will definitely put on a good show for American boxing fans.
“When the experts and the American boxing fans see me KO Jhonny Gonzalez, they will want to see me take on Gamboa, Rojas and Lopez,” Asiku said.
Regarding his fighting style, Asiku said that he will “bring an exciting attacking style to the ring. I can beat all of them. Watch me on 15 September, and see me destroy Gonzalez… Jackson Asiku is coming.”
Asiku’s last match was on 6 November 2009, where he faced Heriberto Ruiz (44-9-2, 26 KO) in Sydney, Australia. The match was the biggest of Asiku’s career, as he defeated Ruiz to win the IBO title. Ruiz, the current No. 36-ranked boxer in the world bantamweight division, was a tough opponent for Asiku. Ruiz put up a good fight, but was ultimately knocked out by his opponent in the eighth round.
Asiku, the current No. 21-ranked boxer in the featherweight division, says that he will able to take Gonzalez out easily, but Gonzalez will prove to be a worthy opponent for him. His record currently stands at a respectable 45-7 with 39 KOs, and he is ranked No. 14 overall in the world featherweight division. Gonzalez is a veteran boxer with much more experience than his opponent. His latest victory was on 24 July against Aristides Perez (17-3-1, 10 KO) in Campeche, Mexico. Gonzalez won the fight with a TKO in the twelfth round.
Gonzalez has put together an impressive résumé during his 11 years in the ring. In 2006, he defeated Fernando Montiel (43-2-2, 33 KO) in Carson, California to earn a twelve-round points victory. The following year, Gonzalez beat southpaw Irene Pacheco (33-2, 24 KO) by TKO in twelve rounds in Tucson, Arizona. Both matches were World Boxing Organization 118lb title fights.
The featherweight division of boxing is currently one of the sport’s most exciting. The top fighters in this division are among the best fighters in boxing.
Southpaw Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez (29-0, 26 KO) is the number one-ranked featherweight fighter right now. The Puerto Rican is undefeated in 29 matches, and claimed his latest victory by defeating Bernabe Concepcion in a fight held on 10 July in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Chris “The Dragon” John (43-0-2, 22 KO) is another impressive featherweight talent. He currently ranks second in the division, and his most recent victory came at the expense of Rocky Juarez (28-7-1, 20 KO) on 19 September 2009 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
John has recently been sidelined with injuries he suffered while training. When he returns to the ring, he will defend his World Boxing Association featherweight title against Fernando Saucedo.
