Jackson Bend and Regal Ransom prepare to take on each other in the Grade 1 Forego Stakes
The 4-year-old colt Jackson Bend trained by Nicholas Zito for owner Robert LaPenta, worked towards the Grade 1 Forego Stakes on the morning of 4 August with his exercise trainer Maxine Correa.
The colt ran four furlongs over at the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga while clocking a fast 49.30 seconds with the company of Our Dark Knight.
The son of Hear No Evil, out of s**y Stockings by Tabasco Cat, Jackson Bend, is coming off an impressive win on the opening day of the Saratoga meet in the James Marvin Stakes on 22 July, 2011 over at a distance of 7 furlongs.
Under jockey C Nakatani on the dirt course, the pair set impressive fractions to beat the lot at every mark of the race, and covered the distance in 1 minute and 20.91 seconds.
On the Oklahoma training track, the colt looked in good shape as he trained with his exercise rider, and breezed without any niggles after a tiring sprint a little over a fortnight ago.
His connections will certainly be looking for another performance like the James Marvin Stakes in the 3 September, 2011, Grade Forego Stakes over at the same racecourse.
Saeed Bin Suroor trained Regal Ransom is a possible for the Grade 1 Forego and a potential foe for Jackson Bend. The 5-year-old horse breezed a good four furlongs in 47.64 seconds, which was a little faster than that of Jackson Bend’s time.
Regal Ransom is coming off a disastrous run in the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs on 18 June, 2011, but the Grade 2 winner has won his 2 starts at the Saratoga main track. He broke his maiden at Saratoga and won an allowance race at the
main track on 1 September, 2010.
The Grade 2 Super Derby winner trained for the Derby at the Saratoga main track and went on to win the Super Derby at Louisiana Downs on 19 September, 2011 under jockey R Migliore.
Regal Ransom had a good 3-year-old career, winning the Super Derby and also the Grade 2 UAE Derby at Nad Al Sheba.
