Jacksonville Jaguars, Kicker Josh Scobee deal talk stalled as July 16 deadline looms large – NFL News
Ken Harris, the agent of Jacksonville Jaguars’ franchised kicker, Josh Scobee, has for the first time admitted to be out of contact with the team’s managers for months and the process of negotiations on a long-term deal for his client
is hit by a stalemate.
Harris confirmed this to a local newspaper via an email message and said the process of talks is limited to initial few contacts with the team, when both sides exchanged their proposals. He said he has not heard back from them since then.
The agent wrote:
"Josh has asked me not to discuss specifics of negotiations other than what has already been said. That is, we had some talks early on involving proposals from both sides, but haven't heard back from them in months. We know our last proposal
is very fair.”
He added:
"Josh and I will certainly discuss each of his options as July 16 approaches. For the time being, he is with his family in Louisiana with his family for a while."
Ken’s confirmation of the communication deadlock has come a few days after the player expressed hopes of winning a new contract from Jaguars by the deadline of July 16.
Interestingly, both sides have claimed their respective offers to be fair ones, but terms of those offers are unknown.
Jaguars’ general manager, Gene Smith’s recent talk has shown the official is less likely to be flexible on the prospective deal’s financial terms, which is an apparent impediment to an agreement between the stakeholders.
While Josh’s demand is also unknown, he remains adamant to compromise on anything at his end, and with the deadline looming over their heads it looks very difficult for them to find an amicable solution before then.
Jaguars are already tangled into a deal controversy with Maurice Jones-Drew, who is demanding a new contract from the team, while they said they expect the player to honour remaining two years on his previous deal.
It looks that stakes are higher for both sides in both deal matters, and unless and until a common ground is found, the immediate future of the players’ appears set to hit by uncertainty and instability.
