Jacksonville Jaguars CB Kevin Rutland, WR Laurent Robinson, FB Montell Owens suffer concussion
Although Jacksonville Jaguars won their third game of the season versus Indianapolis Colts last Sunday, the victory came at a heavy price, with their three key players suffering concussion and another just managing to clear head injury test to return to
resume the game where he had left.
Cornerback Kevin Rutland, wide receiver Laurent Robinson and fullback Montell Owens left the game with suspected head injuries to never return again, and now coach Mike Mularkey confirmed they are suffering from concussion.
Fullback Greg Jones also took a blow to the head but was lucky to have escaped the worst possibility of a head injury. He after inspection on the sidelines was declared all cleared and sent back on the field to finish the game.
The other three were not as lucky and are still out of the side with no timeline yet on their recovery and return. The coach said although scan tests had been performed on these players he was unaware of the results so could not speculate a timetable for
their recovery.
It is nevertheless an unfortunate development for the players and probably a setback for the team, as even if they avoid the possibility of a serious injury, a minor concussion or concussion symptoms are sometimes a challenge, jeopardising immediate return
of the affected players.
They in any case are on the risk of a month’s ousting, at least, while there is no guarantee about avoiding the possibility of a longer absence. The situation is expected to clear on Wednesday when the team returns to midweek practice.
Meanwhile, Mularkey said linebacker Daryl Smith will not be able to return to participate in Sunday’s game versus Cincinnati Bengals. He has suffered a groin injury and is yet to play a game this season.
Running back Rashad Jennings, with a knee injury, is expected back. He was limited in the team practice, but could be able to play against the Bengals this weekend.
