Jacksonville Jaguars DE Austen Lane latest Twitter hit – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end, Austen Lane, has become the latest hit on the social networking site, Twitter, as the player's sense of humour has drawn huge fan-following to his tweets.
Austen is often on the network, keeping the users update through his cheekily funny tweets about his workout and other interactions, most related to his professional league developments.
He, for example, wrote on July 08:
“By popular demand I've decided to post my Monday Workout schedule. Enjoy reaping the benefits twitter world!!!”
The player is also interactive with his fans most of the time, not just limited to casual updates. It is very rare for an NFL player or official to remain so much active on the online social networks, but thanks to development of the mobile
versions of these sites, people remain available online while on the move.
Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, is another best example of regular Twitter users. The official often uses the site to break information around different developments concerning his franchise.
However, the players who come from a rather younger generation are not that active. Many still hold out to mingle around their fans despite the fact that the online and mobile social networking sites have provided them with the best opportunity
to engage in chat with their fans and supporters in a safe and secure environment, while keeping them at distance.
It can be due to the fact that many teams do not allow their players to interact with media so frequently.
Also, these social networks have become a major source of citizen journalism and the contents generated or reported by the common users sometimes have much worthy information.
So while players have no restrictions to come into contact with their fans, they have to apply certain parameters as far as topics of their discussions and disclosure of the information they hold is concerned.
For example, Irsay did not like the idea of his former quarterback, Peyton Manning, taking the matter of his future with Colts to the media, including the social networking sites. The problem with online social media is that they have
huge user-following and the information can spread like a fire in the jungle.
