Jacksonville Jaguars OC Bob Bratkowski backs improvement in passing game – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski is not pleased with the team’s passing game situation at the end of training camp and insists the team has still got a lot to do and improve.
Bob while speaking about the team’s offence situation at present for the first time said there is a room for improvement in all areas of the offence, including drops and running the routes.
The coach said:
"That passing game right now is not very good. It starts with the protection, the drops, running the routes improperly. I know when you stand on the sidelines and look at it a lot of times it looks like it's a quarterback, but I'll be honest with you many
cases the quarterback is getting fooled or he's under pressure and having to make decisions faster than you would want him to make."
The team’s receivers’ situation is expected to improve with joining of rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon after the delay of 11 days. The coach has refrained from laying higher expectations from the first appearance of Blackmon but still there are hopes
the player's presence in the squad will make a difference.
About the performance of the WR Laurent Robinson, Bob said the player has been fairly consistent in his plays but added he is still expected to learn as the camp progresses further.
He said:
“I think Laurent has been a fairly consistent player. It's a work in progress. He's learning a new offense. I think he's been a good addition."
Laurent came into the limelight for the first time following the remarks from head coach Mike Mularkey that the player needs to make a few plays, and improve from the present level.
His position remains crucial to the overall offence strategy of the team, and with the reported improvement in the form of the second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert, the receiver needs to step up his game level further. The entire offensive scheme is dependent
on the receiver’s role and any lapse will completely expose the Jags.
Putting up a strong offensive show is a real challenge in front of the head coach and offensive coordinator this year. It was the dismal form of the rookie QB last season that failed the team in the offensive department.
