Jacksonville Jaguars’ Rashean Mathis out for a year due to injury – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars, apparently the healthiest team in the current regular season of the American football league, National Football League (NFL) 2011, has suffered a setback as three of its key players including Rashean Mathis
have been placed on the injured reserves list.
Rashean Mathis, who has torn the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, is probably out for about a year, as indicated by the information available online. He injured himself in the game against Indianapolis last Sunday,
which the Jaguars won 17-3. Tests have shown his injury was of severe nature and might not available for the rest of the regular season.
Into the week 10 of the current NFL season, Jaguars were considered to be the team with remarkably less ratio of the injured players, only a few backups being out of the game due to multiple injuries. They are 3-6 in the American
Football Conference (AFC) South division.
However, the latest spree of injury has brought them at par with other teams which are suffering from absence of their key players due to injuries.
"It's life in the NFL," Coach Jack Del Rio said Monday. "It's a tough business. It was nice to get a win. Tough for a couple guys to get news that they're going to go on IR, but as a football team we're going forward doing the
best we can."
In addition to injuries to other players, losing Rashean was the major setback for Jaguars. He was playing a good game. He had 12 passes and an interception to his credit.
"It's unfortunate," Del Rio said. "He's a good football player. He's having a good year for us and so obviously, as we do, we move on as a team."
Mathis had reports from X-rays on Monday, which had shown seriousness of the injury.
"That's a huge loss," defensive end Jeremy Mincey said. "That's a veteran voice we need out there. We've got guys that have to step in and pick up where he left off, hopefully do the same thing he did."
Meanwhile Jaguars backup linebacker Kyle Bosworth and guard Eben Britton have also been put on the injured reserves list. This has opened two spots open on the Jaguars roster, looking for replacements for Bosworth and Britain.
