Jacksonville Jaguars’ WR Justin Blackmon finds NFL symposium as beneficial – NFL News
Irrespective of the question who of this year’s rookies needs to be lectured more than anyone else at the National Football League (NFL) symposium, Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver, Justin Blackmon, is among the few players who have
been learning all lessons by heart.
The Jags’ WR, who recently had the bad experience of being arrested on the driving under influence (DUI) charge, took every lesson seriously. This year’s NFL seminar also had an alcohol awareness session. It did not have anything to do
with his case, though.
So altogether, Justin said, it was a great experience for the rookies, given the players who addressed them were former NFL players, who spoke to them out of their real life experiences.
He said of the experience:
"It's been really fun, really good. We've learned a lot - about on- and off-the-field situations that can make our careers last as long as possible."
The player who particularly left an impression on Blackmon is WR, Terrell Owens', who talked to the rookies about some of the possible troubles they can face during their pro career, sharing tips with them how they can avoid them.
Blackmon said:
"One of the points he made was to be careful who you trust and use the resources the NFL gives you. He said he tried to get through a lot of things by himself. All he had to do was reach out to people for help, and it might have been avoided.”
The Jags’ WR is due to appear before the court again on July 24. It is the first hearing date since the player appeared before the judge first time, entering a not guilty plea to the DUI charge.
It is not the start that the player or his team had expected to his pro career. Still Jaguars have given him another chance after the assurance that he will avoid committing the same mistake in the future.
Police arrested Blackmon last month after they found him three times above the prescribed alcohol limit while driving. He was released on a $1,000 bond.
The NFL has been organising the seminar for the last 15 seasons regularly, helping rookies in smooth transition from college to pro league career, which overwhelms some of them.
