Jacksonville Jaguars add more assistant staff under reign of head coach Mike Mularkey – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars said on Friday, January 20, 2012, that they have signed four more assistant coaches to work under the supervision of head coach, Mike Mularkey.
Confirmation of more coaching staff comes a day after the team had announced hiring of two co-ordinators to their coaching department.
The latest signees are Jerry Sullivan, the receivers’ coach, running backs’ coach Sylvester Croom, tight ends’ coach, Bobby Johnson and special teams’ staff, John Bonamego.
All the coaches have played a similar role at a number of teams, previously. It is for the second time that Bonamego will be working for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He served the team in the same role earlier, from 1999 and 2002.
The Jaguars have so far added more than half a dozen assistant coaches to their staff since hiring of their head coach, Mularkey, from the Atlanta Falcons a couple of weeks ago.
Mularkey has taken the charge of the coaching department from the interim coach, Mel Tucker, who has been restored to his previous position of a defence co-ordinator.
Tucker performed the role of head coach following sacking of their former head staff, Del Rio, who was fired by the Jaguars former owner, Wayne Weaver, on November 29, 2011, the day he sold his club to its present owner, Shahid Khan.
Following the reinstatement of Tucker as a defensive coach, the team signed another offensive coach from the Falcons and signed a couple more to add to its coaching staff depth.
All those signees are in addition of several holdovers from the era of Del Rio. Many of the former staff was retained by the Jags following the exit of their head coach.
Tucker also sacked a number of his assistants after taking over as a head coach on the makeshift basis.
The teams is reported to still be in search of more assistant coaching staff and is expected to unveil more signees in the coming days.
It is in line with the mandate that the new owner has given to the team’s general manager, Gene Smith, and new head coach, Mike Mularkey.
Shahid Khan has spoken of his ambitions to make the Jacksonville Jaguars a consistent winner on the field and a role model off the field. He had claimed that the money was not a matter for the team management.
Soon after taking over as a head coach, the new head coach backed the owner’s ambitions and hopes, saying the Jaguars were closer of turning around and becoming a consistent winner.
He also expressed his ambitions of leading the team from the front and building a squad that will ensure Jaguars are the winners in all weathers.
