Jacksonville Jaguars add more assistants under reign of head coach Mike Mularkey – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, to have further shaken up their defensive coaches line-up, adding a couple of more staff under the reign of their new head coach, Mike Mularkey.
Mularkey was hired by the Jaguars new owner, Shahid Khan, a couple of weeks ago and since his joining the head coach has reshuffled the coaching department at a number of positions.
In continuation of his drive to bring about more changes in the coaches squad, the new coach has added three more defensive staff in the side.
The new additions are Paul Spicer as an assistant defensive line coach, Marlon McCree as an assistant secondary coach and Brandon Blaney as a defensive assistant.
Spicer and Blaney have already been working at the Jags and are retained to their new positions by the team management. McCree is a former Jags defensive back and has been hired under new terms and conditions.
Blaney in his previous role at the team was a defensive quality control coach while Spicer had been working as a defensive assistant for last three consecutive seasons at the Jacksonville.
The changes have come following hiring of the new head coach, an offensive coach, and reinstatement of their former defensive co-ordinator, Mel Tucker, to his role.
Tucker had taken over the place of Jags’ former coach, Del Rio, who was fired by their former owner, Wayne Weaver, on November 29, 2011, the day he announced selling of the franchise to its present owner, Shahid Khan.
Mr. Khan, who is an Illinois-based and Pakistan-born American businessman, bought the Club from Weaver in a $770 million, $660 in the team’s price and $110 million in debt.
Tucker was promoted from his defensive coaching duties to take over the responsibilities of the head coach since December 2011.
After hiring of the new head coach of Atlanta Falcons' offensive department, the Jags restored Tucker to his previous position, as a defensive coach.
The team management has mandated the new coach to prepare the side with next season in mind.
Shahid Khan, who is locally known as Shad Khan, has spoken of his ambitions of making the side a consistent winner on the field and a role model off the field. The changes being introduced at various positions is seen coming as a part of the exercise.
With Tucker back in his previous role and hiring of another assistant coach from the Atlanta Falcons, the Jags new coach has so far added as many as five assistant coaches in the line-up of his assistants.
More changes, both in the team coaching staff and line-up are expected to follow in the coming days, until before commencement of draft and regular seasons, respectively.
