Jacksonville Jaguars allow CB Aaron Ross skip workout to be with wife at London Olympics-NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have allowed cornerback, Aaron Ross, to skip some of the preseason training activities to be in London to see his wife competing for a run in the forthcoming Olympics.
It is yet again that Ross has an opportunity to be with his wife at the crucial moment of her career and life. Last time, he had been prevented by the training phase to see her, who was his girlfriend at the time, run at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
Ross said to have planned the trip to the United Kingdom well before signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the management, while realising the importance of the event and related excitement, has let him travel to the event.
London Olympics 2012 are due to start exactly 100 days from April 19, 2012, and Ross’s wife, Sanya Richards, will be representing the USA in different distances runs.
Aaron is said to be very excited over the act of generosity of his managers and looking forward to attend the mega show-off of world athletes competing in different events.
He said:
"That's really huge. It speaks volumes about what they're trying to preach here. They preach family first here, and they're not just preaching it. They're actually showing it firsthand. It was important to me and they made it happen."
The move must be equally welcome for his spouse who won a gold medal in the 1600 meters relay in 2004 and 2008 respectively. She clinched a bronze in the 400 meters run in 2008.
Sanya has been married to Ross for four years and this is for the first time that she is participating in the Olympics as Mrs Ross. Both of them are said to be excited to be with each other at the important juncture.
He said of his wife:
"She was very excited. She wasn't planning on me coming. I was going to try, but she knows how football is around training camp. She wasn't expecting it, so when I gave her the call and told her that (they) allowed me to come, she was more than excited."
Jaguars have started their voluntary offseason workout on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, and the activities are set to continue until the preseason training camp. The next NFL regular season starts on September 05, 2012.
