Jacksonville Jaguars allow DB Aaron Ross skip training to be with wife at London Olympics – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have allowed the defensive back, Aaron Ross, to miss the training camp into late July and early August to be with his wife, Sanya Richards-Ross, who is an athlete competing in the 2012 London Olympics.
Aaron had missed watching her taking part in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 but then she was his girlfriend and now she has become his wife.
The games are coinciding with the training camps of the team, adding to the difficulties for the player to make the choice. It could have been impossible for him to travel to London had Jaguars refused his request to skip the camp.
Lucky for him the management has given him approval to leave the camp into late July and the travel plan will also make him miss the early August period of the training.
His wife, who at the moment is taking part in the US trial squad, is expected to compete in the 400 metres. There is a possibility she might also run in the 200 metres category, but it is not confirmed at the moment.
It should be a great moral boost for the athlete that her spouse and other family members will be watching and appreciating her at the mega world event. She won the gold for the US during her appearance in the 2008 China Olympics.
Back to Jaguars, the team’s training camp will be supervised by the first-year coach, Mike Mularkey. He has replaced former coach, Del Rio, and heading the workout and training activity for the first time.
The team is also coming out with a new owner for the first time. Shahid Khan, a Pakistan-born American businessman bought the franchise from Wayne Weaver, the previous owner, in November 2011.
Although the team has not made an official announcement confirming the planned miss by Ross, it is certain he will be leaving the camp by the end of next month to attend to the games.
Exact dates and days of the player’s absence are yet unknown. The only information is that he will not be present in late part of the next month and early few days of August.
