Jacksonville Jaguars back QB Blaine Gabbert for starting role in 2012 with better form-NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, has aimed to come out in the 2012 National Football league (NFL) season with an improved form.
Gabbert is returning to the squad into second year of his professional career with Jaguars and the team has backed him to prove to be a better player on the field or else think of alternative options.
Jaguars’ new coach, Mike Mularkey, met Blaine soon after taking over the charge in January this year and came out with an assurance that the youngster will be a different player next season.
In one of his recent remarks, Gabbert has also expressed hopes of learning from his past mistakes and giving his best shot on the starting position in 2012 season.
He said:
"There's always a bunch of things you'd like to do differently. You're going to make mistakes throughout the season. You just have to try to limit those mistakes."
Jaguars, who have reformed themselves completely by changing the entire management and even owner, had recently been linked to the interest of pursuing signing of former Denver Broncos’ quarterback, Tim Tebow.
Later, the franchise’s owner, Shahid Khan, clarified the situation, saying it turned out to be the right decision from the player not to join them. He said it could have been a bad move for both, the team and player himself.
This has left the team back with Blaine Gabbert at the starting position. He has earned backing from general manager, Gene Smith and head coach, Mike Mularkey, for the role.
Last season, which was Gabbert’s first year with Jaguars, proved to be disastrous one for him and the team. He remained a source of criticism for the management over his successive failings on the starting line.
Former coach, Del Rio, had remained under fire for betting on the player throughout in spite of his failure. He was eventually sacked by the management.
It was seen as likely then that the team with new management and head coach will part ways with the rookie to explore some other options.
The player himself admitted:
"Some of the criticism was pretty intense. You're always going to get criticized; people need something to talk about. When the coaches say I'm doing fine, I trust their opinion because that's the only one that matters."
Gabbert is lucky to have received endorsement from all the front office officials of the team to remain their no. 1 quarterback into the new season.
Mularkey said that he was excited to work with the QB and has hoped he will live up to the team’s expectations in next season.
Jaguars’ owner, Shahid Khan, said to be bearing the ambition of making the team as a consistent winner on the field and the performance of the QB is going to be crucial for fulfilment of his objectives.
