Jacksonville Jaguars beat Indianapolis Colts 17-3 in Week 10 game – NFL Recap
Indianapolis Colts disappointed their fans yet again as Jacksonville Jaguars registered their first on-road victory this season after defeating the former 17-3 on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium in the week 10 game of the National
Football League’s current season.
The season is proving to be a nightmare for Colts as they have lost 10 straight games and are ranked at the bottom of the league table as the only team with no victory under its belt. They suffered the same fate, worse maybe, when
they were down 0-10 in the year 1997. They eventually finished the season with three wins and 13 defeats.
Desperate to register a win, both teams tried hard to dominate each other right from the start, and by the half-time nothing separated them with scores levelled at 3-3. Jaguars took an early lead when kicker Josh Scobee scored
a 44-yard field goal in the first quarter. A 42-yard field goal from Colts’ kicker Adam Vinatieri brought the things back to square one in the second quarter. This was the only moment to cheer for the Colts’ fan as the second half witnessed a strong defence
from Jaguars, blocking every move the Colts’ offence initiated.
Early in the third quarter, rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw an 11-yard pass to wide receiver Jarrett Dillard, who faced no problem in scoring a touchdown to take Jaguars in front 10-3. The final nail in the coffin was hit
by Maurice Jones-Drew, who managed a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter with three minutes left on the clock.
With this victory, Jaguars grabbed their third win of the season. They have six defeats to their credit.
Jones-Drew had 25 carries and 114 rushing yards in the game. He has become the second player in the Jaguars’ history after Fred Taylor to top 6,000 rushing yards. Gabbert praised his teammate’s performance saying that he is the
back running back in the NFL.
“He's the best running back in the NFL in my eyes," Gabbert said. "Whenever he gets on a roll like that, and he's getting 6 yards a pop, we're going to lean on him.”
The sorry tale for Colts continues with 13.1 points on the league table. Quarterback Curtis Painter was upset for yet another loss and said that turnovers caused them the game.
“The turnovers were the big factor today," he said. "You just can't have those and we've got to secure the ball a little better.”
Colts have been unfortunate as their star quarterback Peyton Manning is suffering from a career-threatening neck injury. However, other players, team management and the coaches have come under the line of fire for the team’s poor
performance.
On a flip side, Colts’ vice chairman Bill Polian, against all odds, recently appreciated the performance of the coach Jim Caldwell, who could have been blamed for the debacle. Polian thinks that the coach has done well to deal
with the problems and said that he has carried out a better job this year.
Colts have a bye week ahead of them, while Jaguars will face Cleveland Brown next week.
