Jacksonville Jaguars cleanse roster just before season closure – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have further cleansed their roster from injured players, putting a few of them on the season-ending injured reserve list and placing another couple on the waivers.
Informed circles privy to the team's roster reshuffles have ruled out it was a sign of an expected massive rebuilding drive likely to be launched at the end of the season, which is only a game away now. They insisted it was just a routine reshuffle, which
was due just before the season closure, as the team with only a game to play do not have to wait for return for the injured ones.
With 2-13 record on the points table, the Jags are on the course to end the season on the worst-ever note of 2-14, and apart from performance issues, the ever-increasing number of injuries has been a problem for the team during the course of entire season.
As per the latest update, the Jags said they have placed wide receiver Cecil Shorts III on the injured reserve (IR) list after the player suffered his second straight concussion in the game versus the New England Patriots on Sunday (Dec. 23). The Jags lost
the game.
Cecil suffered his first head injury against the New York Jets a week earlier, but returned to action in the next week. He suffered the same blow versus the Giants and is now out for an indefinite period. He nevertheless does not stand losing action this
season, because, as earlier said, the Jags have only a game to play this season.
His teammate receiver Laurent Robinson is already on the IR, and now with Shorts joining him, the team has left only rookie WR Justin Blackmon on the active roster from start of the season.
Other players placed on the IR in the recent past are running back Rashad Jennings, who has suffered a shoulder injury. LB Greg Jones who has hurt his leg is already on the IR.
Meanwhile, the team has traded off WR Mike Thomas and waived WR Kevin Elliott.
These changes appear to be of a significant nature but even more significant number of players might face slash in the near future.
