Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey alien to QB Tim Tebow talk - NFL News
In spite of categorical denial by Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey, the talk around prospects of New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow’s arrival in Jacksonville under a trade deal has refused to die away.
Although the team this time has called the reports of on-going negotiations on the front between the two parties untrue, an Associated Press report has cited a local television network claiming that the quarterback can potentially be signed by the Jaguars.
Action News, as reported by the AP, has not revealed sources of the information but confirmed that a possibility of a breakthrough is very much there.
Coach Mularkey has denied being aware of any such development, saying there are no discussions "that I am aware of".
Irrespective of the Jaguars’ refusal to accept the credibility of these reports, two factors still make the potential deal more realistic.
First, the New York Jets aim to get away with one quarterback, most likely Tebow who is in a backup service of their another star offence leader Mark Sanchez, although the former is a better player and the number two position does not fit his calibre and
performance level.
It will also be in the best interest of the player to find a side that needs utilisation of his skills the most, and the Jacksonville Jaguars can be a suitable alternative for him.
So in any case, Tebow needs to be traded unless he is willing to kill his talent and potential. He has so far completed two of three passes for just 32 yards. He has also played at other offensive positions.
Pertinently, Tebow’s place was taken by former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, prompting his trade by Denver Broncos to New York Jets, where another star offence performer was awaiting him.
Second, the Jaguars owing to consistent failings of their quarterback Blaine Gabbert are in need of an offence starter like Tebow, and if the latter joins the team it should be a match made in heavens.
An important question here is how much Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is willing to dole out on Tebow if the owner is willing and backing the move for the star player and a unique character. So far Khan has not shown willingness to open up his wallet on the player’s
hiring.
