Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey backs WR Justin Blackmon in slump – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to be patient with rookie wide receiver Justin Blackmon, whose professional league career has taken off to slower than expected start, while the player is not much concerned about his form at this stage.
Blackmon was selected by the Jaguars out of this year’s draft by trading up with fifth overall pick solely on the reasons that he bore promise of a great potential and in spite of his off-field macho showing-offs, Jaguars have backed him during each play
so far.
Yet Blackmon has not shown the true colours of his performance on the field, but this does not worry the player and coach Mike Mularkey at this stage of the season, both are patient to see the receiver exploiting his potential at any stage.
According to the player:
"It's not that bad. When it happens, it'll happen. I don't control it. All I can do is get out there and play."
He added:
"I guess they're all concerned. I have nothing to be concerned about."
The WR is heading into the next game versus the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday with total 31 yards he has gained in all three games played. Although this is no way a mentionable performance from a boasted talented receiver, coach Mularkey is waiting patiently
to see it coming. He said:
"I just told him to be patient, 'It's coming. We'll get you the ball. There's going to be a time that you'll understand what we're doing. I think he's handling it very well. He's doing everything we ask him to do. This would be a nice game to be a breakout
game for him. But he's just got to be patient.”
Blackmon’s off-field start was not an ideal one either. He was arrested and charged on count of driving under influence (DUI) but was lucky to get away with it to an extent given he received a suspended punishment coupled with some community work, and was
let walk off free by the National Football League (NFL).
