Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey confirms WR Cecil Shorts III due vs Miami Dolphins – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey has confirmed that wide receiver Cecil Shorts III will accompany them on road versus the Miami Dolphins next week as he appears to be hundred percent fit from the concussion he suffered in the Buffalo Bills’ tie a
week before last week.
The receiver could have made to the squad versus the New York Jets last week but return of concussion symptoms held back his return for another week. Now both, the player and coach, said that he is fine and without any sign of symptoms. They are ready to
take him back into the side.
Shorts returned to practice for the first time in two weeks on Wednesday. Although he was kept limited as a precautionary measure, he appeared fine and fully fit.
The player himself admitted it was a challenge for him to recover because he had never suffered the blow before, and only thing he said he did was to rest in a dark room, watch some videos etc. The key is to rest the brain while staying away from noisy environment.
He said during the process he also spoke to teammate Laurent Robinson, who is recovering from fourth concussion of his career and advised him to take complete rest and do not think of rushing back.
Since head injuries are of serious nature because of their long-term impact on players and their families, they should not compromise on the rehab process just to get more games to play.
Shorts admits it is the most difficult time for a player because he has to go through the process in isolation, which is rather frustrating and often players risk to cut it short and return back prematurely.
The receiver is now due to hit the field again on Friday for more practice, which should help further assess his toughness and readiness for the next game.
With three more games to go in the regular season, this year’s football is almost done for Shorts and other players. The Jags with only two wins in the entire season are nowhere near to claim a berth in the playoffs.
