Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey rues CB Rashean Mathis snaps cut vs Buffalo Bills – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey has admitted his decision of reducing the number of snaps for cornerback Rashean Mathis in the Buffalo Bills game on Sunday (Dec. 02) was a mistake, which probably might have also contributed to their loss to the
visitors.
Mike said he could have allowed more time to Mathis while conceding that sticking to Kevin Rutland was not a wise decision. Meanwhile, Mathis himself says he is baffled why the coach prevented him from taking more time.
The CB said:
"This is not to bash anybody. This is not to spark a big, `What's going on with Rashean thing. I do have a voice, and this is the little voice I want to be understood. I feel good. I feel like I'm in a position to help my team win."
He added:
"I'm not saying I haven't thought about it. That would be lying. It's just what are you concentrating on. That's the main thing. What I'm concentrating on is what I'm going to do today and then tomorrow and the next. That will allow other things to play
out."
It is second time in the season that Mularkey admittedly made a wrong decision, which he thinks has remained to be a contributing factor to weak performance by the team. Earlier in the season, he pushed behind running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who he had
led the team to a rare victory over the Indianapolis Colts a game earlier.
Although no one from the team blamed Mularkey that reduction in number of snaps for Mathis was the main reason behind the loss versus the Bills or whether it was one of the contributing causes of the team’s failure on the field, there was a chance that the
result of the game might have been different if Mathis was given more playing time.
The loss has further pushed the Jags behind in American Football Conference (AFC) South. With only two wins in the division the team stays at the bottom of the National Football League (NFL)’s overall standings chart.
