Jacksonville Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey says RB Maurice Jones-Drew questionable – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice-Jones Drew has hit the field again, running to an extent on Wednesday (Dec. 19), but he could go only that far that coach Mike Mularkey has up-gradated his status from highly questionable to questionable for
this weekend.
The Jags are due to host the New England Patriots this weekend for the second last game of the season, and it appears Maurice has a long way to go as far as his return to a formal action is concerned. He ran on Wednesday for the first time in two months
since suffering high sprained left foot.
With one more game to go in the regular season after the Patriots’ game, the player recognises the season might be well over for him. The Jags are on the brink of ending the season at the worst-ever record of 2-14 if they are unable to pull off a win in
any of the two remaining games.
Jones said:
"I just don't want to go out there and put anybody else in jeopardy if I can't be full speed. If I can't go out there and fully protect our quarterback, help our offensive line and block, I'm not going to go out there and put somebody else's life in jeopardy."
His injury has rather proved fatal to the Jags’ present season run. They have managed only two wins so far, and injury of stars like Jones-Drew remains to be amongst leading reasons behind their total collapse.
The running back still has one year left on his contract and is expected to be back with the side next season, unless he decides anything like past season’s holdout because of his salary raise demand. He spent 38 days on the sideline, hoping Jags’ management
might respond positively to his demand of renewing financial terms on his deal, but that never happened.
Meanwhile, the player during the course of recovery from the foot injury has taken time out to go back to his school to complete his degree. He surely has a chance to get more time now, since the season is almost done for him.
