Jacksonville Jaguars’ coach Mike Mularkey sees QB Blaine Gabbert improving – NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars’ coach Mike Mularkey sees a clear improvement in the form of second-year quarterback Blaine Gabbert and he wants the receivers now to step up level of their game to help complement the efforts of the QB.
Some commentators and onlookers have backed view of the coach that Blaine did look a changed player, from the previous year’s performance, during the initial couple of days of the team’s training camp.
Mike said of the QB:
“I thought he’s thrown the ball very well.”
The coach is apparently not happy with their receivers’ situation, which is hurting the completion of passes thrown by Blaine. So far all the receivers’ crop of the team has struggled to click to the form.
He said:
“We’ve got to do a better job. We’ve got to make more catches. We’ve had plenty of opportunities to make some catches down the field, and we’ve got to make them. It’s hard to get the ball deep and accurate and catchable and then not make them. We need to
start doing that [making them]. One thing that’s come out of the first couple of days is that we’re not making the plays that are there.”
Mularkey’s meeting with Blaine seems to have worked well, which he had with the QB soon after arrival in Jacksonville as a head coach in January this year.
Mularkey said he had told the player to either improve or think of alternatives. The coach probably was aware of the criticism that the QB had brought on the former coach Del Rio because of his consistent failing in the rookie year.
Mularkey, however, resisted the idea of replacing Blaine with a new quarterback and backed him by giving another chance this year. Now the reports of improvement emerging from different circles suggest that the coach’s advice seems to have worked for the
player.
With an expected improvement in the receivers’ situation, the Jaguars’ offence seems to come together. A better team performance can be expected by the management this season.
One of the important problems in front of the managers to solve is the contract issue of Maurice Jones-Drew, who is out of the side in protest to the demand of a long-term deal.
