Jacksonville Jaguars cut TE Colin Cloherty, Brian Robiskie, sign 2 new players – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have made a couple of abrupt changes on the offensive line to seek the much-needed help after strongly feeling a need for it in the season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Tight end Stephen Spach and offensive tackle Herb Taylor are signed as a part of the team’s plan to strengthen the offensive line. Terms of their deals have not been disclosed by either of the stakeholders. This includes the value and tenure of their contracts.
Meanwhile, to accommodate the new signings on the roster to maintain it within the 53 players limit, prescribed by the professional league regulator the National Football League (NFL), the team has let go tight end Colin Cloherty and receiver Brian Robiskie.
Both players were part of the side in the season opener but apparently were not of potential serving the team’s need on the offensive line.
This is second time that Cloherty has been waived by the Jaguars as after releasing him earlier the team brought him back to make up for loss of a number of players to injury problems in the preseason phase.
He still has a chance for return to the side if he is able to clear waivers and not claimed by any other team in the league by then.
The Jaguars are one of the most injury-prone teams especially later in the season and always need to sign players off waivers or otherwise to fulfil requirement at different positions. For example, after having remained very much safe earlier last season,
the team at one point had as many as 26 injured players on the sidelines, one of the highest figures ever in the league.
Jaguars’ new signee Taylor has spent a plenty of time at the position while representing different teams in the league. He was selected off the 2007 draft and has played for the Kansas City, Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Green Bay Packers, while Spach
is even more experienced and has played for the Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams.
