Jacksonville Jaguars focus long-term solid fan base, two months ahead in ticket sales – NFL News
The shift in the policy to focus a long-term solid fan-base has paid off for the Jacksonville Jaguars as the management reports to be two months ahead of the ticket sales from the last year’s level.
Macky Weaver, senior vice president of sales, told the team’s official website that the management led by the new owner, Shahid Khan, and president, Mark Lamping, has been focusing on building long-term solid fan base, instead of looking
to offer day-to-day or week-to-week packages.
He said if the sales record of the corresponding period last year is considered the team is at least two months ahead of the past level and should be able to meet the 2012 sales target well before the schedule.
The official said:
“There’s a long-term plan here. From sponsorship to ticket sales, there’s a good feeling that in the next year or two you’re going to see the fruits of these things. Could it be this year? For sure. There is definitely opportunity this
year, but what you’re not going to have is success this year then a drop-off next year.”
He added:
“We have things planned for this year, then things planned for next year. This is the foundation. All of these things add up and people are excited about coming here and excited about this team.”
It is very rare for Jaguars to maintain a healthy following of the long-term loyal fans as the team has not been doing that great for last few seasons.
The past season with five wins was particularly disappointing for the fans and there were fears that many long-term spectators will turn their backs on the team as far as their support is concerned.
Yet it is probably the excitement of the new ownership and management that has made the fans to give another chance to their local football franchise. They have already approved of the new owner.
A large number of fans donned fake moustaches and carried banners with slogans ‘Yes We Khan’ inscribed on them during first appearance of the owner along with Wayne Weaver, the former boss of the team. The moustache is exclusive trademark
of the Pakistan-born American businessman.
Khan is bearing great ambitions for Jaguars and the 2012 season performance, which will be his first as the owner, will prove if the team comes up to his expectations.
