The Jacksonville Jaguars have added to the staff strength of their front office by hiring a former St Louis Cardinals official for the top slot of president.
Mark Lamping, who has spent last four years as a chief executive officer and president of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will assume the charge as a president of Jaguars in the near future.
His appointment was confirmed on Monday, February 13, 2012, by the team’s new owner, Shahid Khan, who called him an exciting addition to the team since its rebirth.
Mr Khan said that Lamping’s addition as the president of the team is "a very important and exciting development in the rebirth" of the team.
He was referring to his purchase of the club from the former owner, Wayne Weaver, who sold it in a $770 million deal reached between the two parties on November 29, 2011.
After overcoming all the regulatory hurdles, Shahid Khan, an Illinois-based and Pakistan born American businessman, took over the franchise formally on January 04, 2012, the day his deal was declared successful and closed.
The owner along with his general manager, Gene Smith, has launched a hiring drive since then and has appointed a number of officials, including head coach, Mike Mularkey, and assistant coaching staff.
Lamping’s appointment is the latest hiring by the side and as his owner hopes it is expected to bring new energy to the franchise.
The president will be responsible for all non-football matters of the team and will directly report to the owner and seek guidance from him on all the affairs.
During his stay as the CEO of MetLife stadium he has achieved a great success and was supported in his progress by the organisation throughout his career.
He is especially being credited for convincing the National Football League (NFL) office to honour his stadium with a commitment of holding Super Bowl XLVIII event at MetLife Stadium in 2014.
The official also had a successful career at the St Louis Cardinals. Now, he gets an endorsement of his new employer, Jags owner, Shahid Khan, who hopes he will add to the success of his franchise.
Mr Khan has repeatedly spoken of his ambitions of making his franchise a consistent winner on the field and a role model off the field, and his hiring drive has apparent come in line with his desire and focus.
He had expressed similar hopes while introducing his new head coach, Mike Mularkey, who echoed the confidence of his employer that the Jaguars hold the potential to become consistent winners on the field.
He especially posed his confidence into the rookie quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, whose successive failures in his starts had contributed to the overall dismal performance of their team during the 2011 NFL regular season.
It is yet to be seen if all these officials come upto the expectations of their employer, making his team to be consistent winners.
