Jacksonville Jaguars in race for signing Denver Broncos’ QB Tim Tebow-NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars are said to have joined the list of contenders for Denver Broncos’ quarterback, Tim Tebow, who has been made available for trade by the team following their signing of former Indianapolis Colts’ QB, Peyton Manning.
Even though Manning is said to be happy to work as Tebow’s teammate, the player is most likely to seek exit from Denver.
His stature and rating could be the main factor behind his intent of moving elsewhere as it might be difficult for the two stars of equal calibre to live and perform besides each other at the same side and at the same time.
The Denver Broncos confirmed on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 to have signed a five-year deal worth $96 million with Peyton Manning, leaving Tebow open for trade.
So far, a number of teams are disclosed to be the potential suitors for Tebow. They include the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers.
Now, Jaguars are revealed to have joined the race but nothing has been reported or speculated further around the possibility of Tebow going to Jacksonville.
Some bloggers, however, have claimed that the decision of Tebow’s signing could be of the owner, Shahid Khan.
They believe that Khan has started with meddling into the team’s affairs and it could be the possibility that general manager, Gene Smith and coach, Mike Mularkey, backed the plan for potential signing of Tebow.
The general manager and coach are said to be least interested in Tebow. However, it is not clear if Jaguars have approached the Denver Broncos with the interest or it is just talk in the media.
Another issue that is going to be important for Jaguars is financial health of the team. It is not clear if Khan will be willing to dole out millions of dollars on Tebow’s signing.
Tebow became the most talked-about player during the last National Football League (NFL) season and his signing will not be as cheaper as some of his potential contenders might have been thinking of.
However, a look at the current value of his next few season’s salary should not be too costly for them. It is $1.942 million in 2012, another $2.266 million in 2013 and $2.590 million in the final year, 2014.
If the player agrees to similar deal from any of the potential teams, Jaguars could easily work out an acceptable contract for him.
Following the disclosure of the interest from these teams, the player and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, have been approached by the media for clarification.
However, they have not offered any comments on the player’s future and especially the prospects of moving elsewhere.
