Jacksonville Jaguars interview may affect offensive coach Brian Schottenheimer position at New York Jets – NFL News
New York Jets showed willingness to release their offensive co-ordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, if he seeks to leave the club to pursue another opportunity with some other team in the National Football League (NFL).
It is for the first time that Jets have publically spoken about their offensive coaching staff after reports that Schottenheimer could be a potential prospect for Jacksonville Jaguars, who are seeking to hire a head coach.
The Jags are reported to have interviewed Jets' offensive co-ordinator.
However, nothing has emerged since then about the chances of him being selected or short-listed for the position.
Despite this, Jets, while going public about his future, said that they will welcome him back to their offensive coaching duties at any point in time.
However, they added, they will let him go, if Brian wishes to pursue greener pastures with any other side of the league.
The assurance from Jets have come inspite of the reports in some sections of media, which have indicated that the side was looking to replace the assistant coach following a jittery 2011 regular season on the NFL.
Reports have further hinted at the Jets weighing to bring in Miami Dolphins coach Tony Sparano as his replacement if he decides to move elsewhere. The timing of him being interviewed by the Jaguars may serve well into their aims for his replacement.
The assistant coach joined the Jets in 2006 and has been credited for building the side as the NFL’s leading offence in 2009 and second best in the year 2010. He has recently signed an extension with the team that runs through 2012.
However, he has come under fire following a poor show-off by jets in the season 2011, especially their loss to the New York Giants that had ended their hopes for a wild card chance into playoff.
Coinciding with the criticism had come a hope for him, as the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are looking for a head coach since firing of their fulltime coach Del Rio, on November 29, 2011, have interviewed him besides other candidates. However, it is not clear
yet if he will be given the head coaching role at the Jags.
Only thing that favours him is his offensive coaching experience, which is the main focus for the Jaguars in their search for the fulltime coach.
He, however, will have to beat the candidates from other teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals to claim the position.
Following, the reports attributing the Jets to the latest public comments, he might be more than interested to join any other side including the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars are currently with an interim coach, Mel Tucker, in charge. He has been promoted from his defensive co-ordination duties to take over at the Rio’s place.
The side has interviewed several candidates for the job but no one has been tipped, so far, to lead the group.
