Jacksonville Jaguars lose 17-10 to New York Jets, another poor home effort – NFL Recap
The Jacksonville Jaguars lost another home-game, this time to the New York Jets on Sunday (Dec. 09), as the mistakes-riddled side could not manage a perfect finish, although showed some promise in a very competitive game.
Overall, it was another undisciplined performance by the Jags at almost all positions. Fumbles, interceptions and turnovers in other forms kept facilitating the Jets and they did capitalise on those opportunities to an extent. It was nevertheless a good
win for the Jets and some of their players including Tim Tebow boasted they enjoyed the game thoroughly.
Tebow said:
"It's definitely special coming back. The Jacksonville fans are always awesome. It was fun for me. You want to play. You want to help your team. It can be hard. I had some great memories in this stadium, from Pop Warner to college.”
It was 11th loss of the season for the Jags. They are with 2-11 standing in American Football Conference (AFC) South, and probably heading to end the season at bottom of the league’s standings chart.
Coach Mike Mularkey, as expected, was not pleased with his team’s effort. It was again repetition of the same mistakes that baffled.
Referring to a punt, Mularkey said:
"We need things like that to happen for our team to help us win and help us with momentum. We're coming up short with them in one way or another."
Quarterback Chad Henne showed some potential again, but as was predicted before the game he has limitations of his own. He was exposed at many, some crucial, occasions and his mistakes allowed the opponents to benefit from those mistakes.
The team has almost similar issues at other position. They tried to have some talk on the sideline to help them pull up together but failed to coordinate their efforts. Also, the absence of QB Blaine Gabbert, running back Maurice Jones-Drew and a couple
of other players, who are out of the side with respective injury scares, was felt amid lack of confidence among younger players.
It is certainly over for the Jags as far as their playoff chance is concerned. With the Houston Texans already through to the second phase of the season, the Indianapolis Colts stand at 9-4 impressive standing. They need a single win to reach the playoffs,
with the Tennessee Titans and particularly the Jags nowhere on the radar.
This is probably the time that some of the officials and players will start thinking about their future, to see if they manage to hang around in the longer run. There are some indications that the Jags will go through some transformation and in the process
certain members of the organisation will lose their jobs.
