Jacksonville Jaguars on top against defending champs New York Giants in preseason game – NFL Recap
Underrated Jacksonville Jaguars produced a shocking result on Friday, August 10, 2012, while playing against the defending champions New York Giants in their first preseason game as they managed to beat the Giants 32-31 in an exciting
contest.
It was a high-scoring game with the offence of both teams dominating the game.
Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert played a phenomenal game and produced outstanding output. He completed four of six passes in the game as he managed to cover 51 passing yards. Gabbert also had a three-yard touchdown.
Gabbert was feeling very relieved after such a good game. He was under serious pressure after having an average 2011 season. Gabbert said:
"The biggest thing is that I've got to protect the football. We can't afford to fumble away the ball on back-to-back drives like that when the regular season comes around."
Jaguars Head Coach Mike Mularkey appreciated Gabbert’s performance. He said:
“To take a team 90 yards and the things he did on third down. To do it all right and not do anything self-inflicted and move the ball down there against that defense, I was very proud of him."
Giants quarterbacks Eli Manning had an average game as he completed four out of his eight passes and got passer rating of 75.0.
Manning threw a 28-yard pass to Victor Cruz, but then had two incomplete passes following it.
Giants’ backup quarterback had a fairly good game as he went on to get two touchdown passes in the second quarter.
Giants started the game very well, but failed to utilise the advantage. Both teams put a lot of young players on the field in the deciding fourth quarter.
With two minutes left on the clock, Jaguars' third-string quarterback Jordan Palmer threw a touchdown pass to running back Keith Toston and shattered the Giants’ hopes.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was very critical of his team. He said:
"The number one thing is ball security as a punt returner. The first thing you have to do is catch the ball. We also have a lot of people who quite frankly don't know what they're doing."
